General Likes: Tropey shenanigans, taken as seriously or as silly as you like. Protectiveness. Loyalty. Conflict. Hurt/comfort. Messy, complicated relationships where no one person is necessarily "better" than the other. Characters who are normally in control very much not being that. Dragons and/or robots. Hair ruffling.
General DNWs: Porn. Non-canonical (permanent) major character death. Torture or mutilation. Issue fic. Non-con, even off screen.
The Adventure Zone
Edmund "Ned" Chicane/Duck Newton (& Beacon)
Arthurian AU
I love Arthurian legend and I love AUs that bounce off some of the concepts and story elements established within the mythology. Feel free to play as fast and loose with the mythology as you'd like - whether you're just playing off general tone and concepts or making specific references, I'll love it either way.
I think these characters would be really fun to play with in the context of an Arthurian AU. I very much want Duck and Beacon forced to deal with this very different prophecy that Duck is just as reluctant to deal with (and, man, don't they both have some regrets about the day Duck pulled him from the stone). I would also be delighted to have Ned fill in a Merlin-esque role in the narrative - he's totally magic, he promises!
High Fantasy AU
A lot of my interest in this AU (aside from just liking high fantasy - there was a reason TAZ caught my interest in the first place) is placing these specific characters who have such an interesting relationship with supernatural stuff in canon into a universe where the supernatural/magical/"weird" stuff is the norm and seeing how their respective hang-ups play out. So much of their dynamic with the weird circumstances they've found themselves in relies on the supernatural elements that have influenced their lives being safely classified as "weird" and the rest of the world that they interact with outside of the lodge having little genuine knowledge about its existence. I'm very interested in seeing how a different setting affects Duck's feelings about being a Chosen One or how Ned pulls off his cons.
Superhero AU
My motivations here are similar to my motivations in requesting high fantasy, but I do think that a Superhero narrative, in particular, could be a blast with these characters. Supernatural elements might not be as common place as they are in a high fantasy universe, but people with powers would, at least, be something of a known quantity in a world with superheroes running about and that would still give them a plenty different set of circumstances from canon.
How would Duck, a character in this universe who might have powers and a specific heroic calling, balance his general desire to do good and the way that he cares about the people in his community with his genuine and generally understandable reservations about risking his life for some "higher purpose" and his established tendency to not do exceptionally well when it comes to thinking things through in high pressure situations when his friends are in danger, either freezing up or doing something idiotic like running directly into a water monster that's coming at him like a train? How about Ned and his cons? He probably wouldn't actually be powered and he doesn't have the technical know-how (or money) to be a Tony Stark or Bruce Wayne, but he does have a lot of charm! I imagine that he probably doesn't intend to get as involved in genuine heroics as he ends up.
Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicle
Fay D. Fluorite/Kurogane & Li Syaoran & Li Sakura
Role Reversal
So, I'm super into fic where Kurogane and Fai/Fay (not particularly picky about how you choose to romanize his name) start off in Syaoran and Sakura's original situation and vice versa. I like seeing how this changes the dynamics between the characters, I like seeing how each of them sets about their world-hopping adventures with different motivations backing them, I like seeing an older Syaoran and Sakura as well as a younger Kurogane and Fai.
It's up to you whether you choose to do a very direct swap or mess with the backstories a little bit. I remember one fic with this premise that remained forever unfinished that had Sakura as Tomoyo's royal body guard being sent away to gain independence and I was super down, but I also wouldn't complain if you felt like there was a different scenario that fit Sakura's character better and would still lead to her ending up at Yuuko's shop and needing to go on this journey - just to give an example.
Cryptid Hunters
This one is pretty straightforward since the prompt is in the tag, but, man, I love me some cryptid hunters. Just looking for my favourite Tsubasa quartet in an AU where things that go bump in the night are real and they've made it their business to track those things down. And I'm seriously not fussy about what you have them hunting - pick from any lore you want and go hog wild!
Revolutionary Girl Utena
Himemiya Anthy/Tenjou Utena
Superhero AU
I really love AUs that put the Utena cast in a tropey genre setting and I also really love superhero tropes, so I adore the thought of this mashup!
Utena as a young, up-and-coming hero who has grown up idolizing the superheroic ideal. Anthy her apparent Lois Lane-figure who may have more going on than she let's on and a mysterious connection to one of Ohtori's most notorious supervillains - a man who calls himself "End of the World" (everybody thinks it's a little on the nose, but can't deny that the man gets results).
The rest of Utena's colourful cast hamming it up with appearances on whichever side of the hero-villain line suits you.
Seriously, go nuts with this one.
Scott Pilgrim AU
So, Utena and Scott Pilgrim have a lot of obvious superficial similarities and toy with some of the same concepts, so a fusion here is not really that off the wall. What Scott Pilgrim brings to the table that I think it would be fun to see the Utena cast play with are all of the video game/nerd culture elements that inform Scott Pilgrim's universe and the self-aware meta humour.
You don't have to play super hard into the plot of Scott Pilgrim and make all the duelists Anthy's evil exes and are free to keep as much of the characters' original motivations and dynamics as you'd like (or not). What I'm really interested in here is how the interactions between these characters play out in a world as bizarre as Scott Pilgrim's.
