Hey there!

First of all, thank you so much for writing something for me.

Renee Montoya is one of my favourite characters of all time in any media, never mind just comics. Watching her hit an absolute low point by the end of Gotham Central and then build herself up and emerge a hero in 52 still shakes me on a deep, emotional level every time I read those stories. Renee is a wonderfully complex character and her flaws appeal to me every bit as much as her better qualities.

Kate Kane found a place in my heart as soon as I met her. Much like Renee, I love her warts and all. I love Kate and Renee's relationship when it's sweet and sincere, but I also really do love it when it's fraught and messy too. I have just as many favourite shippy moments from scenes in which they are mutually "that ex I can't get over" as I do from the halcyon days of their early relationship.

If you feel like playing off the dynamic between them with some plot to drive their interactions, I would love that. You don't have to write something with a romantic focus if that's not your bag, though that's always welcome. And however you want to define the relationship between them for the purposes of your story is fine by me - they can be together, they can be broken up, they can have never been together at all. I think those all lead to interesting possibilities for their interactions. They can even be seeing other people if you'd like - as I said in my optional details, Maggie, Dee, and Helena are always welcome (and don't even feel limited to those options necessarily - is someone hooking up with Wonder Woman? Starfire? Barbara Gordon?).

Canon-compliant is always fine. Given the nature of comics, I'm not at all fussy about placement in timelines or universes or continuities - whatever you're comfortable with or interested in is fine. Case fic is always fun and there's always a lot of room for interesting tension brought on by Kate and Renee having differing goals or similar goals with differing motivations or conflicts of interest brought up by too many Feelings(tm).

AUs are also always fun and I am totally down for them. I always have and always will love the superhero genre, but if you want to take high fantasy for a spin go ahead. Or how about some gothic horror? I could see both characters easily slotting into a noir mystery. Western? Science fiction? Pick your poison - I'm open to whatever you'd like to try.

Whatever you decide to go with, I hope you have a good time writing it and I am super excited to see what you come up with.

Specific Prompt Ideas:
  • A whodunnit murder mystery would be tons of fun to read. Maybe either Kate or Renee are framed and the other one is driven to investigate until she can prove that it was Mrs. White in the library with a candlestick.
  •

  • I always love groundhog day loops (and this is the one scenario where I'd be willing to break the "no major character death" clause in my optional details, provided it doesn't stick). The angst, the drama, even the potential comedy.
  •

  • Somebody gets a hold of a monkey's paw (or, well, something like it). I could see this leading to some interesting conflict whether the holder is Kate or Renee, but Renee especially is a character who can be driven to intensely self-destructive measures, especially if she believes the ends justify the means.
  •

(The prompts are there to help you if you need a specific idea to get started, but don't feel beholden to them if there's something else you want to write. While they're certainly an indication of fics that I'm craving, they're by no means the only type of fics that I'd be interested in and I wasn't lying when I indicated that I'm generally pretty open to whatever you want to explore here in the rest of my letter.)
